Janitors Launch Unfair Labor Practice Strikes Across Los Angeles County
Los Angeles janitors put down their brooms and picked up picked signs launching unfair labor practice strikes in strategic locations across Los Angeles County after contract negotiations broke down early Wednesday morning. Janitors cleaning some of the most expensive commercial office property in the country are earning some of the lowest wages in the country among unionized janitors.
“Enough is enough, we are standing up for our rights and for all working people,” said Rosa Ayala, a janitor on the bargaining committee. “The decision to go on strike is not easy, but we are ready to do whatever it takes to win justice.”
As of late Wednesday night, more than 450 janitors in over 40 buildings had walked off the job.
